Ceret is 10km from the house (a 15 minute drive) and has a wide range of restaurants and bars.

Picasso, Matisse, Braque, Duffy and Soutine all lived and worked in the town, and today it is home to many working artists. Its artistic heritage is on display in the town’s Musee d’Art Moderne.

Ceret and the surrounding area has many fine Catalan, French and Spanish restaurants, ranging from intimate family auberges to Michelin-starred establishments.

The town has two large supermarkets, and a food and crafts market on Saturday mornings, where you can buy excellent bread, cheeses, fruit, vegetables and other local and organic produce.

The closest larger cities are Perpignan (a 45 minutes drive) and Barcelona (around 110 minutes). Other spots of interest include Gerona, a pretty Spanish town just over the border (a 45 minute drive) and Figures, a larger city and home to the Dali Museum (a 75 minutes drive).
